Use of Information and Communication Technologies in the Cuban Medical Sciences Universities

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: New technologies constitute a fundamental pillar in today's world. Since their emergence, they have benefited educational systems and challenged traditional practices.
Objective: To critically analyze the use of ICTs by faculty working in Cuban Medical Sciences Universities, focusing on two key aspects: the teaching and learning process and professional development.
Methods: A literature review was conducted on topics related to the use of ICTs in Cuban Medical Sciences Universities. Original and review articles by Cuban and Latin American authors were considered, available in various databases such as SciELO, Dialnet, Latindex, Medigraphic, REDIB, DOAJ, and EBSCO, and published in Spanish between 2020 and 2026.
Development: Teachers with adequate technological training can maximize the advantages offered by the use of ICTs in the teaching-learning process. Regarding disadvantages, they will be able to minimize them through personalized strategies adapted to the conditions of the environment where they carry out their educational work.
Conclusions: It was found that the communications infrastructure supporting the computerization of the National Health System must be kept up-to-date and functional. Professors are underutilizing the potential of university students to make greater use of technology. Training initiatives should be implemented for teachers in the use of technological tools that strengthen the evolving role of the professor.
